Wales has a new Unesco World Heritage site, the slate region in the north-west area. There are several reasons for this choice. The slate area has had a huge impact on global architecture, with its unique beauty. In addition, it has had an important role in the film industry, being used as the scenario of many famous masterpieces. The site is also significant because some of the most important pieces of art were hidden there to protect them from the Nazis. (Adapted from BBC news July 28, 2021)

Watching an educational video on your own and then discussing the content in class is one of the many learning activities of a popular learning model called the flipped classroom. Studies suggest that this instructional strategy not only helps students learn course content better, but also develops valuable life skills, such as leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The traditional learning space is reversed in the flipped classroom model, which means that most of the instruction happens at home, while in class students exchange opinions, apply concepts, and collaborate with their classmates. (Adapted from the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning - Harvard University)

We know that language certification is required by many government offices, companies, and educational institutions abroad and at home. This form of international accreditation is not only necessary for many higher educational institutions, but it is also an option that opens doors to many opportunities in one's personal, professional, and academic life. For instance, if you want to apply for an international exchange scholarship, you must first get an official language proficiency certification. For this reason, it is a good idea for students to obtain their language certification while still in school. (Adapted from MOSAlingua)

We're always being advised to stay safe online. But in an era where the Internet is part of our everyday lives - for work, fun, study, shopping, even managing finances - it's not always easy to spot the dangers. When joining online communities it's better to be cautious about the amount of personal information you share. For example, it isn't always necessary to use your real name as a username when registering for a service. You could instead use a pseudonym, or a name that doesn't give away your real identity to other users. (Adapted from Flo- Joe Splendid Learning)

What price can you put on a child's education? It depends on who that child is. New figures show the average fee for attending a top private school has now risen above £17,000 a year for the first time. In contrast, a child attending a state school in England can expect to have £4,000 to £6,000 spent on them, depending on location and additional charges. This would be worrying in any circumstances but when we have collapsing state schools, it feels almost grotesque. While some children enjoy drama halls and swimming pools, others are trying to learn surrounded by dirt and insects. (The Guardian, May 8 2018; adapted)

When one of America's earliest open-plan offices debuted in Racine, Wisconsin, in 1939, women were less than one-third of the country's working force. That early office was not so different from the one that modern workers experience. It was designed to suit a particular employee: someone who could stay at work until late because he didn't have to rush home to make dinner for his children; someone pleased to meet the boss because it meant time to chat and talk about golf. Both Prince Charles and Prince William carry out plenty of royal duties, and both are prepared to be king. Besides, few people want Britain to become a republic. This is perhaps understandable as British politicians are not particularly popular these days. (Adapted from News in Levels)

With an elderly population which becomes smaller and smaller every year, the Southern Sicilian town Sutera sees Italy's immigrants as an opportunity. To Italy's anti-immigrant political right, this community is a catastrophe: more foreigners and fewer Italians. But to local people, it represents an older Sicilian story, escaping from war, and the commercial opportunities migrants bring with them. The people of Sutera understand immigration and see their future in the hands of these young newcomers. (Adapted from The Guardian, 19th March 2018)
