- Each winter, North Pacific gray whales migrate from the waters around Alaska to Laguna San Ignacio, a windy lagoon on Baja's Pacific coast, where they give birth to and care for their young before going back north. Part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, San Ignacio is also home to four endangered marine turtle species and attracts sea lions and elephant seals.
